Do your in-laws threaten your marriage or invade your relationship?
On this reverse-interview episode with Michael and Elizabeth from the Marriage Talks Podcast, Lindsey shares her own story of family-member-drama as well as her perspective on what it means to deal with difficult in-laws as a Christian man or woman.
Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
This isn’t an easy thing to do – especially when family members are unwilling to be a part of the leave and cleave process.
A husband and a wife have behavioral, experiential and moral differences based on how they were raised. They are two sinners coming together and trying to make a godly relationship work. In order to have a healthy marriage, it is important to fight for healthy in-law relationships by showing the love of Christ.
When healing in-law relationships, Lindsey talks about focusing on side-by-side relationship builders, living the relationship out on your own rather than through your spouse, seeking humility and laying down your pride, watching your words and voicing expectations.
