When you were younger, did you think about the qua When you were younger, did you think about the qualities you wanted your future husband to have?
[save for encouragement or send to a friend]

If I'm being honest, the things my younger self used to think were important are not the most important. 😅

One of my ex-boyfriends and I were watching The Notebook, and he said, "All I want in a spouse is someone as understanding as that." At that moment, I realized I had never really thought about that - wanting an 'understanding' spouse. Of course, these are things we want in a spouse, but I don't feel we intentionally hope for those qualities as often as others.

Jesse is one of the MOST understanding and patient people. His peace comes from not getting involved in other people's mess. His peace comes from not telling me how to live my life but praying for me in the areas that I fall short.

One thing I admire about him is that when I struggle with something, like anxiety, even though he may not fully understand it, he desires to help me and love me better through that hard season.

That’s what marriage is all about. Being a helpmate when the other person feels weak. God didn’t intend for us to face life alone. He sends people in our lives to act as His hands, and Jesse does that for me, and I him.

Let me ask you this. As you reflect on your marriage, if you desire your spouse to possess different qualities - understanding, slow to anger, assume the best in you - I want you to ask yourself, “do I act the way I want him to?”

We are all going to fall short, but that’s when we ask for forgiveness from our spouse. Showing them that you are trying can sometimes inspire them more than just communicating what you need verbally.

What qualities are most important to you in a spouse? Let me know👇🏻
If you listened to last week's episode you heard m If you listened to last week's episode you heard me talk about my past and the decisions that have haunted my memories.
[If your past mistake constantly weigh on your mind, bookmark this to encourage you as you let go of that.]

You know I like to share tips with you that I am actively implementing in my life, so in this episode I share four biblical ways that you can work in faith through remorse, regret, shame and embarrassment toward healing and joy.

I also dig into how the Gospel, self-centeredness and people-pleasing can cause us to live in a place of shame rather than in a place of freedom, and how taking our eyes off of ourselves and placing them back on Christ can help to break that bondage.

I want us all to walk in the freedom that is promised through the blood of Christ. If he has already fogiven us, who are we to give space to those things in our minds? As you go throughout this week, remember, we are a new creation in Christ. Our old self no longer lives, but Christ lives in us. Walk in that truth.

Comment and let me know: What is something that you're working on letting go of?

If you had to pick one dessert to eat for the rest If you had to pick one dessert to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? 👇🏼👇🏼

Jesse and I often seek out fun things to do together to keep the joy alive in our marriage! Whether it’s eating a box of cookies 😂, going restaurant hopping or renting electric bikes for a night in Nashville, we try to find new ways to be adventurous together.

We have realized how quickly marriage can grow stagnant without a little intentionality behind it!

What should we review next? 🖤

“Would you be brave enough to have this discussi “Would you be brave enough to have this discussion with your spouse? Yes or no?!“

{save/bookmark to look back on for conversation prompts}

In this particular conversation that I discuss on the podcast, Jesse and I talked about our past relationships, our regrets in those relationships and the embarrassment we feel about our actions.

I know I can be an over-communicator 😂. I love digging into topics that really help us get into each other’s minds. I’ve learned over the years that saying the hard stuff out loud helps me to process it and move on more successfully.

I encourage you to speak to your spouse if there is anything in your life topic that is weighing you down. These things lose their power once they are out in the open.

I pray that this conversation gives you courage and hope to move forward in your life as a believer, because God’s grace frees us from the bondage that we often feel trapped in.
