I honestly don’t think I’ve worn overalls since I was about seven years old, but as soon as I saw these, I had to order them! They are so much fun! They’re also a great, casual outfit for a day out with my little guy or for brunch with the girls.
Although I wear a lot of dresses, I have always been a huge fan of denim and I love the idea of distressed denim overalls. After they arrived, I put them on and my husband came into the room. He’s not one for fashion and rarely comments on anything I wear. But when he saw the overalls on me he said, “Babe, you look so cute!” I decided I had no choice but to keep them after that. 😉 But if I’m honest, they are totally out of my comfort zone and typical style.
Speaking of ‘comfort zones’, I have really been working hard to get outside of my comfort zone in multiple areas of my life. This includes my fitness, with the topics I write about, in my marriage and also in choosing joy in my day to day life.
I find that as I step out of my comfort zone, I also begin to rely on God more. I have a bad habit of compartmentalizing God and believing that He only cares about the ‘huge’ things in my life. It has been incredibly freeing for me to realize that I don’t always have to live life in the confines and boundaries that I’ve created for myself. I am learning that I can step out because of the freedom that I have in Him.
I’m also beginning to realize that my determination and classification of ‘huge problems’ isn’t His definition, it’s mine. In the grand scheme of things, our problems are very small to God. And yet, He sees all things and cares about all things, no matter how silly they may seem to us. Luke 12:7 says, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
He numbers the hairs on our head because He is a God of true detail. I love that about Him. He gives us the freedom to share every little piece of our lives with Him and reminds us that we can trust Him in everything (Philippians 4:6).
Really? Everything? Yes! We get to share our hearts without hesitation because He loves us and desires good for us. We can express the burdens brought on by poor choices that we’ve made or are currently making. We can rely on Him to give us the words and courage that we need for a dreaded conversation with a friend or family member. We can also lift up the “silly” anxieties that we face in our day-to-day lives, like ironing a new shirt, driving in traffic, starting a new job or transitioning our little ones into a new season of life.
Do you find yourself in this place? Have you just accepted your relationship/work/life situation because it’s “easy” and a lot less scary? When we live this way, we won’t admit it, but we try and control things around us to ensure that we are never challenged too much.
Sweet friends, He cares about your life, your worries, your struggles, your joys and the state of your soul and heart. I encourage you today to let Him in. Open up your heart and life to Him and share the areas that you may typically try to control by your own strength. Pursue those dreams or get rid of the things that hold you back. You will be amazed at the beautiful freedom that you find when you have a childlike faith!
