Kitchen Renovation Sneak Peek and Our New Sink

Well, it’s finally here: We’ve moved in! YAY!

It feels so good to be in our own space and to continue making it our own. I do still feel like we’re living in a little bit of a construction zone, but things are coming along!

We sold almost all of our furniture when we moved out of our last house so we are in the process of choosing and ordering our furniture this week while finishing up some things like light switches, caulking, doors and so on. 

So, here it is, the answer to the question many of you have been asking:

What is my favorite room in our Target home?

I honestly knew what my answer would be from the beginning of this renovation:

The KITCHEN!

It’s so funny because I’m honestly not a visual person; I put pieces of designs together and hope that they work out. So when I first walked into our semi-complete kitchen once the backsplash and light fixtures had been put up, I immediately started to cry.

(And now I want to cry just looking at that precious, squishy baby because I just love him so much!)

I was so thankful in that moment and I am still feel like it’s a dream. I’m grateful that God has allowed this to be our home, that we are able to build a life together with our two boys AND that it turned out better than I had imagined.
 

So what still needs to be done in the kitchen? A few things!

1. We are waiting on our hood vent and shelving to be built and installed. It’s much more costly than we expected because of the style that I want – and finding the right person to do it has been a little bit of a challenge (especially after we had so many mistakes made by contractors) – but we’re about to take the leap and just go for it while hoping for the best. 

2. The exterior of our kitchen island needs to be completed. I chose a wainscoting look for the outside of the island because we didn’t do cabinets facing outward. I’m then going to paint it a light gray or sage (naturally, I haven’t decided yet.)

3. We are still waiting on our kitchen table to be delivered. 

However, we did just have our Satin Brass Emtek hardware installed and that was a huge step forward. I absolutely love them. It’s amazing what hardware can do to a space – and although it can be a little bit costly, I felt like these were actually very affordable and we are super thankful that we decided to run with it! 

One of my absolute favorite parts of the kitchen is our beautiful farmhouse sink. We got the Bradford II Fireclay Farmhouse Sink from Sinkology and Home Depot. 

Sinkology was kind enough to send us their All-In-One Fireclay Kit which included the single bowl apron-front farmhouse sink and Pfister’s ultra-bold Venturi faucet in Spot Defense stainless steel (we haven’t had any issues with spots at all – thank goodness!)

The kitchen wouldn’t look as clean (or be as functional) without this perfect sink. (Yes, I said it! Perfect. And for those of you who know me, you know I don’t use that word lightly.) 😉

I’ve mentioned it before, but now that we’ve used a one-basin sink, we’ll never go back. This sink provides SO much space for filling pots, stacking dishes, cleaning, and preparing meals.

I use the bottom grid to ensure that pots and pans don’t scratch, but we had our last farmhouse sink for two years without that and it never scratched!

We also love the modern, one-handle faucet and the cute little soap dispenser! I’ve also used the non-scratch scrubber for all of my cleaning since we’ve moved in.

If you watch my Instagram Stories, you likely saw that we spent over 6 HOURS washing dishes that we had taken out of boxes. I am so happy to have that done!
